AEPGA: working for the welfare of donkeys and people since 2001

The Association for the Study and Protection of Asinine Cattle (AEPGA) is an environmental non-governmental organisation based in Atenor, in the municipality of Miranda do Douro, founded in 2001.
Following its motto – “Working for the well-being of donkeys and people” – AEPGA has done fundamental work in safeguarding and promoting the indigenous Burro de Miranda breed, whose numbers have increased through the association’s efforts over its 22 years of existence. It is also part of its mission to preserve all the landscape and cultural heritage associated with this animal. To achieve these objectives, AEPGA works across the territory of the north-east of Trás-os-Montes, intervening in the following areas: Culture, Animal welfare, Environment, Research and Education.
