João Almeida, born in Lisbon, has a degree in software engineering, a part-time travel photographer and full-time software architect, photography has always been present from an early age, since the first tries with the father’s old Yashica rangefinder, and remaining a self-taught enthusiast ever since.
In the early travels photography became the main companion, and throughout the years gathered a portfolio spanning four continents, from India to Iceland without never forgetting Portugal.
Gradually the interest shifted from just capturing the trips to telling the stories of people, places and how they interact with each other and their surroundings, in the form of their rituals, traditions or just simple everyday life habits.
Had many of his photos have been licensed to different publications, sold prints to private collections around the world, and hosted several collective and solo exhibits, the latest of those dedicated to the island of São Tomé. Nowadays João mostly works on personal documentary projects.
